DD50P review : professionals – straightforward to use; works quickly; pump works precisely as it should; quieter than I expected (not as loud as an air conditioner, even on its high setting, as some reviews I’ve seen, though i wouldn’t need it within the front room whereas gaming or watching a movie); the choice of using either the pump, gravity drain, or internal bucket is nice; adequate for my entire 1300 square feet home when running on low for an extended amount.
Cons – fan runs constantly even when target humidity level or below is reached (may not be a con because the added air movement isn’t a bad issue, but the additional electricity usage is); exhausts heat air and can heat a space by 5 to eight degrees in line with thermometers (not necessarily a con); humidistat registers high by roughly 100 percent any time unit is initial turned on, but goes down to the particular humidity as measured by alternative humidistats among a couple of minutes; humidistat is off by a couple of percent at any given time, but is generally shut once it’s been running somewhat (not a signficant con); small (1 to a pair of inch) puddle appeared below pump hose fitting when unit was moved twice, but was gone by succeeding day (not a significant issue in my case).
I purchased in July 2011 with the intent of using it within the finished attic of my 1911 ventless roof home, which had a mold drawback last winter. Being summer, I had the attic windows open and didn’t really need it up there, so place it within the basement.
